Our girls are GEMS.

Co-founders Shannon Keating and Christina Gutman met while facilitating a girls club together in 2022. When the club was over, they both agreed that the girls were needing more time and space to process and receive support around the critical issues our adolescent girls are now facing — things like “mean girl” and bullying situations, social media challenges, hormonal mood swings, comparison and jealousy, body image struggles, and beyond.

We wanted to be a part of the solution and created GEMS to provide a holistic program for girls to talk and open up about issues that are present in their social-emotional lives without judgement, while also moving their bodies in healthy ways and getting physical exercise in a non-competitive, fun environment.

We also believe that awareness of our mind-body connection is a valuable skill to leverage throughout our lives, and we want to help girls and young women learn about this powerful quality so that they can use it as a source of strength and healing. Our programming centers around one’s internal self-worth, compassion and service to others and our community, and respecting and celebrating our bodies. We do this through: safe-space sharing and coping tools development, different forms of exercise and games, meditation and mindfulness, and creative projects.

We’ve developed the curriculum that we wish existed when we were younger — to walk the girls compassionately through lessons such as “Positive Self Talk”, “Exploring Uncomfortable Emotions”, “Overcoming Comparison”, “Building New Friendships”, and “Focusing On Your Joy”.

GEMS is a space where girls can explore strength in vulnerability, support in community, and safety in being exactly who they are — shining bright like a diamond.

Meet Coach Shannon

Shannon Keating is a certified Nutritional Therapist and Life Coach. She specializes in working with young adult women and teen/pre-teen girls. Her areas of expertise include self love, body image, emotional wellness, mental health, intuition, self trust, and relationships.

The personal challenges Shannon faced in her teen and young adult years have transformed her into a wealth of knowledge and experience when it comes to cultivating self love, creating a healthy relationship with food and body image, and overcoming mental health challenges.

Shannon loves staying active and one of her favorite places to be is her gym, Stratum Fitness, in Solana Beach, where our GEMStrong classes will be held starting in October!

Meet Coach Christina

Christina Gutman is mom to two amazing tween and teen girls, who inspired her to contribute her time and energy into building this organization. She wishes to provide the empathy and insights she has from her experience as a tween and teen, and also wants to learn from the incredible girls that participate in GEMS!

In the past Christina has run an arts and activism program for at-risk youth, and volunteer coached a girls after school running-based program. Christina is also a practicing CPA and part-time avocado farmer!

We are here to be part of the solution.

GEMS - After School

For 5th-6th grade girls, we offer an after school enrichment that includes a weekly theme and lesson, walking laps, group discussions, guided mindfulness, and creative “gemstone” project.

GEMStrong

For 6th-8th graders, we offer our strength/fitness program twice / month to teach them proper weight-lifting movements. This also incorporates an intentional theme and a cool-down meditation.
